Get off the screens and get into the craft! Our youth program is the perfect place for kids to get dirty and learn new skills. We work closely with just a small number of kids to help them get the confidence they need to safely use a variety of woodworking equipment. We start by building a number of small projects with simple tools and progress through the program in stages until kids get the skills they need to make projects the can design themselves (typically, 4-6 × 6 week terms until kids are designing their own pieces).
All our youth classes are taught by ex-woodworking-teacher turn professional maker, Kate Duncan. Kate received her bachelor of education in 2004 and taught from 2004 to 2014 in Burnaby BC. In 2009 she wrote her masters thesis on gender inclusion in trades education and has a deep commitment to making the craft accessible to both boys and girls.
For youth in grade 8-12.
